This is an excellent read for fans of Sienkiewicz's prior works - especially if you like the Polish "Trilogy" epics. This book is filled with characters (both lovable and otherwise) and includes all the elements that worked so well for the author in his prior masterworks -- there is plenty of action, chivalry, and lost loves. I don't want to give the story away by telling the plot but trust me when I say that if you enjoyed the Trilogy you will enjoy this.

The problem however is what I said in the beginning - you will get to the end of these 500+ pages and complete only half of the story. Where oh where is the other half???

Wonderful reading from a terrific writer
I have read every book he has written
Until there is no more to be found
I bought this book for my partner and was disappointed to find that it was only volume 2 of 2. There are other editions on and they all seem to be only the first part and of course, the covers wouldn't match. Be warned.
It's a good book but anfortunately is not complete version.
The original complete book is 5*. But whoever edited it for removed the entire ending. Hence the 3*.
It's missing chapters 56-81. The last 25 chapters of the book have been omitted.
This version of the book is incomplete. It is missing Chapters 56-81. It ends 25 chapters earlier than the original book written by the writer.
Why has the entire part (ending) of the book been omitted!?
The story is gripping although the language is overblown and a little tedious. The descriptions of the Teutonic Knights are horribly evil and show the depth of the hatred that the Polish people felt toward the Kinights of the Cross.
Very compelling story revolving around a family early in the crusades of Eastern Europe. Very specific about housing and everyday life at that time.
